Driver's Rights Card
A Legal Rights Card
GRL Law is the home of the original Iowa Driver’s Rights Card©.
The Iowa Driver’s Rights Card© was created by the attorneys at GRL Law and is designed to provide motorists with an effective and simple way to invoke their rights when being investigated for operating while intoxicated offenses. It also can be used in any other situation where one is being investigated by law enforcement for suspected criminal activity such as drug offenses or other situations where law enforcement is requesting to search or interrogate a suspect.
The Iowa Driver’s Rights Card © is a written invocation of an individual’s constitutional and statutory rights. The newest version is simple and concise and informs an officer in no uncertain terms that the individual providing them with the card wishes to speak with an attorney immediately; does not agree to questioning by law enforcement; does not agree to a search of their person, property or affects; and further wishes to go on about their business if they are indeed free to leave. These are simple constitutional principles that most individuals faced with inquiring and intimidating law enforcement presence either forget or are intimidated into waiving. The newest version also comes with a handy key chain card that includes the 24/7 emergency number and GRL Law’s 3 Survival Keys: 1) Shut up; 2) Wise up; 3) Lawyer up.
While it is tempting to try and talk ones self out of a situation, more harm is usually done than good. Prisons are full of people who try to talk themselves out of an investigation or even a night in jail. The best defense is immediately consulting with competent legal counsel before waiving any rights. That is precisely what the Iowa Driver’s Rights Card © is designed to assist people with.
GRL Law’s Iowa Driver’s Rights Card © IS NOT a get out of jail free card. Nor is it intended to aid or encourage drunk drivers. It is simply a tool to educate citizens of the State of Iowa on their rights as well as assist them in invoking constitutionally endowed rights. It will not guarantee that you will not be arrested or charged with a criminal offense. The card is meant to assist officers in correctly determining how you wish to be treated under the law. GRL Law’s Iowa Driver’s Rights Card © is also Iowa specific. Every State has different laws and applies constitutional principles differently. Information contained in this card cannot and should not be applied to situations arising in any State but Iowa.

free initial consultation
If you or someone you care about has been arrested for drunk driving or an intoxication related offense, remember that an arrest is not a conviction; there are many, many reasons why an OWI charge may be wrong. If the driver doesn't believe that he or she was drunk, that very well may be the case; breathalyzers can malfunction. There are also many other reasons for improper drunk driving accusations. We know, we find them all the time.
