Attorney Robert G. Rehkemper has dedicated his legal career to defending those charged with criminal offenses, particularly those charged with alcohol related offenses such as vehicular homicide and operating while intoxicated. From the outset of his career, Attorney Robert Rehkemper has developed a niche for carefully scrutinizing law enforcements actions and taking them to task through application of science and a superior knowledge and understanding of the law. Arguments he has made have resulted in positive changes to police procedure throughout the State as well as changes in the laws surrounding operating while intoxicated cases.
Attorney Rehkemper’s passion for criminal defense was ignited during his undergraduate studies at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he double majored in History and Psychology, graduating Cum Laude in 1999. Following Coe, Robert Rehkemper attended Drake University Law School and graduated with High Honors in 2002. During his time at Drake, Mr. Rehkemper also successfully completed the intensive advanced criminal defense clinical program through the Neal & Bea Smith Law Center. He has practiced in criminal defense since being admitted to the Iowa Bar in September of 2002.
In 2003, Attorney Robert "Bob" Rehkemper joined the National College of DUI Defense, an organization dedicated to mastering the science and the law associated with defending operating while intoxicated cases. He quickly became the State Delegate for the State of Iowa, a position that he holds to this day. In April of 2005, Attorney Rehkemper became the first attorney in the State of Iowa to complete the NHTSA/IACP Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner Course through Walden, Platt & Associates, receiving the same, if not more intensive, training as officers receive regarding the administration and interpretation of field sobriety exercises. In 2007, Attorney Robert Rehkemper became the first Iowa attorney to be certified on the DataMaster evidentiary breath testing device through its manufacturer, National Patent Analytic Systems.Â
Attorney Rehkemper continues to attend numerous other national seminars and training programs specifically dedicated toward successfully defending vehicular homicide and operating while intoxicated cases. He also speaks at multiple seminars throughout the state of Iowa on those same issues. Criminal defense is his livelihood but most importantly, it is his passion. Attorney Rehkemper is also admitted to practice law in front of the United States Supreme Court, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa.
Attorney Robert G. Rehkemper's sensational sense of humor helps his clients feel at ease. His quick wit is surpassed by his quick study of cases and the issues upon which arguments can be built. Most of his clients begin the initial consultation by calling him 'Mr. Rehkemper', but like everyone else who meets him, his inviting personality and pleasant mannerisms soon have them calling him, 'Bob' or 'Bobby'. (If you call him 'Bobby', he'll know you read this far. =)
